This program will introduce you to the cultural and historical attributes of Mexico; combining world famous heritage sites with the best of Mexico’s Colonial past and ancient Maya sites. We begin in Mexico City and surrounding points of interest before traveling to Puebla, a Spanish colonial flavor, home to more than 70 churches and numerous colonial buildings, many of them adorned with the city's famous hand-painted tiles (azulejos). Next is Oaxaca with its narrow streets and large indigenous population, flourishing markets and some superb colonial architecture. We continue to Tehuantepec dating back to the Aztecs and then San Cristóbal de las casas, a handsome colonial town in the pine-clad Valle de is surrounded by the classic Mayan villages of the Chiapas highlands. Next we visit a famous Maya site of Palenque displaying some of the finest architecture, sculpture and carvings. We continue to Merida visiting some of the most important ruins at Uxmal and Kabah as well as Chichen Itza, one of the best maintained sites before ending in Cancun for relaxation.
